The Kildare Folklore Pharmacy
On Culture Night 2021, the Kildare Folklore Pharmacy opened its doors to the public with the aim of banishing the county's aches and pains.
Inside you could find kildare's only pharmacy that recommends keeping a seventh son of a seventh son on speed dial and that offered suggestions on identifying changelings. All of these cures were compiled from records of folk medicine and healing in the Irish Folklore Archives.
During the opening, in-store 'pharmacists' (Orla Anderson and Megan Day) were on hand to diagnose visitors by reading potatoes before advising on treatment. Unorthodox prescriptions included ferrets, piebald horses, snails and river dividing two counties.
It's highly recommended that you talk to your doctor before taking their advice!
