Drawing on Stockholm
Encountering strangers on the streets on Stockholm in a street style blog with a focus on drawing.
I moved to Stockholm in August 2011 for a masters programme called Curating Contemporary Art. Unfortunately I did too much drawing and not enough curating and my right brain wouldn’t let my left hand put down the pencil.
Moving to a new country by yourself is quite a terrifying experience. You may have to start looking in the opposite direction when crossing the road and the size of the dairy section in Swedish supermarkets is both astounding and confusing. Unsure of social codes, even saying hello to somebody and asking them for a kanelbulle can scare the wits out of you. The blog is an attempt to go beyond my comfort zone and to find a way to making my own connections with the city of Stockholm by meeting lovely, friendly people who are wearing nice clothes, taking their picture and transforming them into drawings…
The goal is not necessarily to find the trendiest people in Stockholm and create fashion propaganda for the city. There are many wonderful websites and magazines that do that so much better than I ever could. I hope to give a snapshot of the city and its people through the seasons and create a cross-section as interesting and as diverse as the people who live here.
A big thank you to all who have let me draw.
